Father Son and Holy Spirit
Scripture: 1 John 1:2, 1 John 4:13-15
“…which was with the father and was made manifest to us…” “…He has given us of His Spirit…” “…sent his Son…”
A time-honored hymn entitled “Holy, Holy, Holy” declares, “God in three persons, blessed trinity.” Trinity is a term coined to describe the fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith. This doctrine states that simultaneously and individually the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are wholly God, while the word itself does not occur in scripture, there is ample evidence to support God’s triune nature throughout the Bible. (Genesis 1:26, 3:22, Isaiah 48:16, 61:1; Matthew 3:13-17, 22:43-46, 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14 and 1 Peter 1:2)
John in a very straight forward way opens this scripture by proclaiming the most important thing we are readers need to know; Jesus is God. Jesus has always existed, from the beginning, and He is not a subservient being as the Heavenly hosts are. Rather, Jesus was, is and will always be of the same nature as the Father (John 1:1-4). Jesus himself attested to this unique relationship when he laid claim to the revered name of God revealed to Moses at the burning bush (John 8:58) and later reiterated this truth by stating “I and the Father are One” (John 10:30).
John also delivered key insight into the special unity Jesus shares with the Holy Spirit. While the word “advocate” appears throughout scripture they refer in 1John 2:1 to Jesus Christ, then again in John 14:16,26, 15:26 and 16:7 about the promise of the Holy Spirit.
John encourages all believers to be confident in the certainty of their salvation that is initiated, completed, and secured by the harmonious work of the Father, Son and Spirit (John 4:13-14).
Check your spiritual temperature as you pursue an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
